14. Research focus areas acoustics, aeronautics, FP6/FP7/..., materials, physics, shoemaking, simulations
15. Brief annotation Material Engineering studies focus on understanding and mastering the principles and laws influencing material structure and properties. Attention is paid particularly to the problems of preparing projects for the production of new materials with specific utility properties (physical, chemical, biochemical). Stress is put on the modern methods of measurement for characterization of selected material properties, use of computer systems for modelling material quantities, their extrapolation to the stress limits, modelling state of stress by the finite elements method. Selected parts of lectures deal with the systems of rapid prototyping for plastic industry, metal processing, design and fine stoneware. Material Engineering studies focus on reconciliation of all preparation methods and techniques, characterization and identification of individual products and their production itself with the valid norms ISO and CSN.

Research orientation of the Institute:
- applied acoustics and mechanics of bodies
- environmental acoustics and energetics
- computer simulation (of material structure and state of stress)
- characterization of dielectric material properties
- sorption/desorption effects on the boundary between solid/liquid phases, solid/gaseous phases
- applied plasmochemistry and physics of plasma
- preparation and characterization of thin material layers
- measurement of strength material behavior
- applied colloidal and surface chemistry
- physico-chemical characterization of materials
- biomaterials engineering
- engineering and hygiene of shoes
